Universal Orlando Announces Expansion Plans for Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Universal Orlando Resort has announced a significant expansion for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the Universal Orlando theme park. Universal Studios Hollywood is also getting its very own Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Details regarding the expansion at the Universal Orlando Theme Park are scarce, but rumors are speculating the expansion will not be at the Islands of Adventure area, where Harry Potter Park is located now, but in Universal Studios. In fact, some rumors suggest the expansion is behind the closing the Jaws ride in early 2012.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is divided into two sections: Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade Village. Hogsmeade Village is home to a variety of stores dedicated to the all things Harry Potter. At the Hogsmeade entrance to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, visitors immediately see the Hogwarts Express engine and are transported to a world they’ve only read about or seen in the movies. Ollivander’s Wand Shop, Zonko’s Joke Shop, Dervish and Banges, the Owl Post Office and Honeyduke’s Sweet Emporium are all located here. The Three Broomsticks is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner where British fare is served, and of course, butterbeer. The non-alcoholic butterbeer was meticulously researched and the recipe was approved by Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling.

The featured ride at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction is the Forbidden Journey Ride, located at the enormous Hogwarts Castle. Universal Theme Park knew the lines for the ride would be long, so the queue for the line includes animated paintings, a lecture from Headmaster Dumbledore and other unique features that make the wait time much more interesting. The ride itself is a simulated virtual rollercoaster ride, in which a huge screen recreates the Castle and lake beyond as Harry Potter flies ahead of you on his trusty broomstick. The ride takes you to the Forbidden Forest, to a Quidditch pitch match and you try and outrun the Dementors of Azkaban, among many other ride elements.
